Cancelling your health insurance

If you took out health insurance in Germany, you should cancel the insurance to avoid paying any unnecessary instalments. The letter of cancellation to the health insurance company must be submitted in writing and include a certificate stating that you are no longer enrolled as a student at the university. If you leave Germany before the semester officially ends, the letter of cancellation should include your date of departure, the country to which you are returning and how long your German bank account will continue to exist.
