Student jobs at HM: Benefits
Important! What you need to know:
You must meet the following requirements in order to work at the HM as a Student Assistant or tutor:
- You are resident in Germany.
- You are carrying out your work in Germany.
- You are enrolled at a university or college in Germany.
Are you a national of a non-EU country?
You will then need to provide a residence permit which, ideally, is valid at least until the end of the contract period.
- You may not start work until you have signed your contract.
- Are you starting before then? If so, your work will be regarded as voluntary and unpaid. You will not, therefore, be in an employment relationship with HM or the Free State of Bavaria.
- The HM is a state institution. This means that, when you work at the HM, you are working for the Free State of Bavaria.
- Once you have been employed as a Student Assistant or TUT, you may no longer take up fixed-term employment with the Free State of Bavaria without a valid reason.
This is laid down in the Part-Time and Fixed-Term Employment Act (Section 14(2), first sentence, TzBfG); decision of the First Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court of 6 June 2018.
- However, a fixed-term position for objective reasons (for example, if you are hired as a locum or are working as a researcher under the WissZeitVG) is possible.
