Public Transport (Semesterticket)

The Munich public transportation system (MVG) offers a great variety of public transportation throughout the city and surrounding areas. Depending of your use of public transportation, different ticket options may apply. For ticket possibilities, please observe the website of the Munich transportation company.

A very good option is the so-called “Deutschlandticket”, which costs €38 per month for students (rising to €43 from January 2026). The Deutschlandticket can be used on public transport across Germany at any time. It is valid on buses, trams, suburban trains, underground services and regional trains (e.g. RE, RB). It is not valid on high-speed services such as ICE, IC or EC trains.

The ticket is a subscription, so students must remember to cancel it before leaving Germany. It can be purchased from public transport operators or via the MVV/MVG app.
