Incoming exchange students
HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences has over 200 partner universities and is delighted to welcome a large number of exchange students every semester.
Any student from our partner universities, who wishes to study at our university, can find all relevant information on application and the exchange at HM on these pages.
Application
Partner universities officially need to nominate their exchange students prior to the student's application. Nomination is done by an exchange coordinator via Email to international-office@hm.edu.
Please provide the following information or use our Excel Sheet:
- Family name and First name
- Email student
- Level (BA/ MA)
- Start semester
- Duration (1 or 2 Semester)
- Nationality
- Home Department
- Study area at home university (Erasmus+ only: with ISCED code)
- Desired field of study at HM

Hochschule München does not require any German language knowledge confirmation from exchange students. However, students planning to attend courses in German should have German language knowledge of at least CEFR level B2 to be able to follow classes properly. | Hochschule München requires no confirmation of English language knowledge. However, exchange students have to have language skills at least equivalent to CEFR level B2. We expect our partner universities to ensure that students fulfill these requirements. |

1. | Selected students must be nominated by their home institution via email before starting the application process at HM. Your coordinator needs to send the nominations to the International Office or directly to the responsible coordinator in the International Office. The nomination deadlines are: Winter semester: May 1st Summer semester: November 1st |
2. | Please use our Online Application System to apply for one or two exchange semesters at Hochschule München. The link to the Online Application System (Application form A) can be found in the section "Application Documents". |
3. | Please send your scanned and signed application form A via email as one (1) PDF-File with max. 5 MB to the International Office . Design students can send the Portfolio separately. The application deadlines are: Winter semester: May 15th Summer semester: November 15th |
After your application You will not receive immediate confirmation that your application documents arrived. If they arrive more than two weeks before the deadline, we may be able to review it and confirm the receipt. If it arrives close to the application deadline we will process your application after the deadline. Letters of Acceptance will be sent to you within one month after the deadline. The countersigned Learning Agreement will be returned via email after the application deadline. In case you have to withdraw from the exchange programme, we kindly ask you to immediately inform the International Office. |

Learning Agreement (for Erasmus+ students) | We only accept OLAs (Online Learning Agreements). Course selection
Course selection
As a general rule, final course selection and registration do not take place until you have arrived in Munich.
If you have to put together a Learning Agreement or Study Plan beforehand, please use the lecture timetables from the previous semester as a guide or ask your departmental coordinator at HM for advice. The Learning Agreement can be changed after the student has arrived. More information about the Learning Agreement can be found in the section "Application Documents".
Courses from the various departments are open to all exchange students enrolled at HM irrespective of their own field of study and as long as prerequisites are fulfilled and/or places are available.
Thesis: It is not possible to write a Bachelor/ Master/ final thesis during an one semester stay under supervision of HM.
