Finding accommodation
Information on how to find accommodation abroad
It is your responsibility to find suitable accommodation and pay the rent yourself during your stay abroad.
Please note that, whether you are taking part in the Erasmus+ programme or studying or interning in a non-EU country, accommodation is not included in the exchange programme.
However, our partner universities are more than happy to help you find accommodation. If the partner university does not arrange halls of residence, it will at least provide you with information on how and where to find accommodation once you have applied there. In many cases, this information can already be found on the website of your future host university.
The cost of accommodation depends on the host country and the city. Please find out in advance about the housing market and the rent to expect.
In some countries, it is advisable to book a room or arrange appointments for viewings and interviews before you arrive. In other countries, however, you can spend the first few days in a hostel and look for accommodation once you’re there, as there is a wide range of rooms available.
Tips:
- Make sure you find out about the housing market and the various accommodation options well in advance.
- In our testimonials , you can read about how other students found their accommodation.
- There may currently be students from Hochschule München studying at your host university, in which case you may be able to take over their room. Please feel free to contact your coordinators at the International Office regarding this.
- In many cities, specific groups (e.g. ‘Erasmus+’) have been set up on various social media platforms. Join these groups! Students there often offer their rooms or share information on finding accommodation with new exchange students.
Subletting your room
Last but not least, exchange students at HM are also looking for accommodation for one or two semesters. If you would like to sublet your room or flat to international students whilst you are studying abroad, please do not hesitate to contact the International Office !
