Hochschule München: one of the most diverse Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany
A wide range of courses, interdisciplinary research, an entrepreneurial ethos, strong regional links and a cosmopolitan atmosphere: these are the strengths of HM. The 14 academic departments, together with the MUC.DAI and MUC.HEALTH departments, provide education for over 18,500 students at Hochschule München.
Help shape society. Help shape the future.
Students studying at HM today will be helping to shape the future tomorrow. To prepare them for this responsibility, a degree at HM combines excellent specialist training with a focus on major societal trends such as sustainability and globalisation. This is made possible by lecturers with practical experience and a vibrant campus that brings together personal interaction and digital innovation.
Our graduates think and act in an entrepreneurial, sustainable and international manner, with an eye to a world increasingly shaped by digitalisation. HM aims to produce students who are responsible, forward-thinking and open to other cultures, and who will play a lasting role in shaping our society and making informed decisions about our future. This is one of the reasons why HM students are highly sought-after in the business world.
Teaching – academic, practically-oriented, forward-looking
The range of courses offered by HM covers the fields of engineering, business, social sciences and design. Lecturers with an academic background and practical experience work with students who are prepared for careers as specialists and managers through a methodologically sound and application-oriented approach. In addition, our students can specialise in entrepreneurship, sustainability, intercultural studies or digitalisation.
Interdisciplinarity is fostered at the HM through the Studium Generale, interdisciplinary teaching formats and specific courses. Furthermore, the MUC.DAI interdisciplinary school, the Munich Centre for Digital Sciences and Artificial Intelligence, serves as a hub for interdisciplinary courses on digitalisation.
Our teaching is aimed at full-time and part-time students, working professionals and those interested in further education, as well as students on dual and cooperative programmes for bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and certificates. Our collaboration with businesses and social institutions ensures a practically-oriented focus.
A degree at HM provides academic qualifications for professional expertise and leadership roles, as well as the opportunity to pursue further academic study, including a doctorate.
Research – applied, innovative, interdisciplinary
HM’s research projects provide impetus. We develop solutions to the challenges facing our modern and diverse society, support their implementation and thereby strengthen our society’s capacity for innovation. As a driving force for progress and innovation, we are firmly rooted in the Munich metropolitan region.
In particular, sustainability, applied natural sciences, machine learning and social Transformation define the scope of HM’s research. The HM’s research institutes, in particular, offer expertise in specific research areas as well as opportunities for networking and collaboration.
For us, high-quality research also means training early career researchers. That is why we support and supervise doctoral projects: in collaboration with partner universities, through our own Graduate School – and now also through our own right to award doctorates in research centres where HM and its partner universities have particular research strengths.
In doing so, we work closely with local, national and international companies and organisations.
Our research is characterised by the high level of specialist expertise among our researchers, professional processes and systematic collaboration across disciplines.
Transfers – practice-oriented, collaborative, entrepreneurial
Munich is one of Europe’s leading economic and scientific hubs. Here, HM plays a significant role in the regional innovation ecosystem. To this end, we work closely and in a needs-based manner with our partners from business, civil society, politics and academia on technological and societal issues. This takes place on an equal footing and in a variety of ways: from recruitment and joint projects to innovative knowledge transfer formats, through which we aim to strengthen the involvement of civil society in transfers and research. Among other things, this is done specifically within our innovation network, HM:UniverCity.
Together with the SCE, we embody an entrepreneurial mindset and approach: in collaboration with the HM and regional and international partners, our Entrepreneurship Centre offers educational and research programmes in the field of entrepreneurship, supports start-ups and innovation processes, and guides young companies from the initial idea through to market entry.
For many years, HM has been one of Germany’s leading universities in the field of entrepreneurship, viewing it as a transformative force that ensures future viability.
