Quality Management Higher Education
The quality management system for teaching at Hochschule München is based on the PDCA cycle: from the teaching and learning process right through to strategic measures, planning, implementation, review and the resulting actions form a closed loop for the continuous improvement of processes.

We advise and support the departments in the development of degree programmes and in the accreditation process, covering procedures and the involvement of committees within the university, as well as cooperation with the accreditation agency and the German Accreditation Council.
In addition, we provide guidance and templates to help with the preparation of the necessary documents and plans.

Course Evaluation
At Hochschule München, the quality of courses is assessed using Rindermann’s (2000) conditions model. This essentially comprises criteria from the following areas: framework conditions, teaching success, students and lecturers.
Our course evaluation standards:
- Regular and systematic selection of courses
- Use of standardised questionnaires for each type of course (lectures, seminars, tutorials, projects, laboratory sessions)
- Feedback session with the students
- Automated – and therefore objective – analysis of teaching evaluations

Evaluation of Research Institutes
The evaluation of Hochschule München’s research institutes is based on the “Framework Regulations for the Establishment, Operation and Closure of Research Institutes at Hochschule München” (RO-2017) and the “Guidelines for the Evaluation of Research Institutes at Hochschule München”.
The evaluation identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the research institutes, with the primary aim being to gather relevant information for those in charge of the institutes and to incorporate this into their future development.

Services for students and external visitors
If students at Hochschule München are to be surveyed on a particular topic as part of a bachelor's or master's thesis, we assist candidates in sending out their surveys online to a representative random sample of our students via our mass email tool. Please refer to our information sheet on this matter.
Our students are faced with a large number of surveys. As a result, their willingness to take part in surveys is declining.
The QM maintains a master calendar in which all planned and ongoing surveys are recorded. This makes it easier to schedule enquiries and helps to avoid multiple simultaneous requests for participants to take part in surveys. The Outlook calendar is named ‘Surveys and Teaching Evaluation at the HM’.

Project system accreditation
Hochschule München is committed to high standards of quality and their continuous improvement. In order to strengthen the university’s autonomy in the areas of studies and Teaching, the university management decided in 2020 to launch the accreditation of quality management systems project.
As a result of its certification as a system-accredited university, the accreditation of study programmes will no longer be necessary in future. Hochschule München is further developing its existing quality management system (QMS) in the area of Teaching so that it can itself ensure compliance with the accreditation standards for its degree programmes. The greater flexibility this provides makes it possible to create a QMS tailored to the university’s needs.
In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, the Quality Management Department is developing appropriate measures and structures to map out the decision-making processes for the (re-)accreditation of degree programmes. The first degree programmes are due to undergo internal (re-)accreditation from 2026 onwards. The HM’s QMS will then be assessed and re-accredited by the German Accreditation Council every eight years.

On 17 December 2013, the Principles of Teaching Evaluation at Hochschule München were adopted by the Executive Board. These principles are therefore binding for the conduct of teaching evaluations across all departments.
Key standards for teaching evaluation:
- Consistency and a systematic approach to the selection of courses
- Use of standardised questionnaires for each type of event
- Mandatory conduct of a feedback session with students
- Objective, automated analysis of teaching evaluations
These principles have been introduced gradually since the 2014 summer semester. The university management provides the necessary support centrally through the Teaching Evaluation Service Centre and the EvaSys evaluation software.
