Duales Studium (dual study programme) and Studium mit Praxispartner (study with practice partner) at HM
Through duales Studium (dual study programmes) and Studium mit Praxispartner (studies with practice partners), you can recruit highly qualified, academically trained young professionals with extensive practical experience and a strong sense of loyalty to your company.
The collaboration between Hochschule München and its practice partners takes place on three levels:
- Contractual: cooperation agreement between the practice partner and HM, contract of study between the practice partner and students, enrolment of students at HM.
- Organisational aspects: Coordinated timetables for practicum phases and theoretical phases, as well as the exchange of experiences with HM practice partners.
- In terms of content: the integration of theory and practice. The way in which this integration is structured varies between individual degree programmes. Degree programmes that integrate theory and practice particularly intensively and systematically are known as dual study programmes. They are also accredited by the German Accreditation Council for the ‘dual’ profile. Degree programmes that integrate theory and practice to a lesser extent or only sporadically are also accredited in principle, but not for the ‘dual’ profile. In this case, the programme, run in cooperation with companies or organisations, is called ‘programme with practice partner’.
Both variants can be studied within the ‘Verbundstudium’ (academic study combined with vocational training) and ‘Studium mit vertiefter Praxis' (academic study with intensive in-company training).

What study programmes are available at the HM?
Dual study programmes and study programmes with practice partners are available in many bachelor's degree programmes as ‘study with vocational training’ (Verbundstudium) or ‘study with intensive in-company training’ (Studium mit vertiefter Praxis). In some master's degree programmes, a study with intensive in-company training (Studium mit vertiefter Praxis) is also available.
In the Verbundstudium (combined programme), the studies at Hochschule München are combined with integrated commercial or industrial vocational training at a company of the student’s choice.
The total duration of the training programme (vocational training and studies) is 4.5 years.
Exception
The dual Civil Engineering degree programme offers a specialised Verbundstudium for certain apprenticeship occupations. In this programme, studies begin in parallel with the first year of the apprenticeship and last for a total of 9 semesters. Further information can be found on the programme’s website.
Exceptions regarding the practical semester (see diagram):
- In the Business Administration degree programme, the practical semester takes place in the 4th semester.
- For students on the Mechatronics/Precision Engineering and Industrial Engineering programmes, the practical semester takes place in the 6th semester.
- In the Production and Automation degree programme, the practical semester is split into two parts: ten weeks in the 3rd semester and 14 weeks in the 6th semester.
- For apprenticeships with a duration of less than 3.5 years, the final examination is taken earlier accordingly.
Note
- For all degree programmes (at bachelor's and master's level), the contracting parties may extend the contractual relationship by mutual agreement if the student is unable to complete their degree by the expected date, for example as a result of a semester abroad or a sabbatical semester spent gaining further work experience.
TheStudium mit vertiefter Praxis (studies with intensive in-company training) offers students the opportunity to undertake intensive practical placements at a company of their choice during their studies, in addition to the scheduled practical semester (without aiming to obtain a vocational qualification). The study with intensive in-company training comprises at least 50 per cent more practical training than a standard university degree programme.
The total duration of the course (including studies and practical placements) is 3.5 years.
Exceptions (see diagram):
- It may be possible to join the SmvP later, subject to consultation with the dual study programme coordinator or the Head of Degree Programme.
- The practical semester takes place in the 4th semester of the Business Administration degree programme.
- In Mechatronics/Precision Engineering and Industrial Engineering, the practical semester takes place in the 6th semester.
- In the Production and Automation degree programme, the practical semester is split into two parts: ten weeks in the 3rd semester and 14 weeks in the 6th semester.

The Studium mit vertiefter Praxis (studies with intensive in-company training) with Master’s degree offers particularly committed and practice-oriented students the opportunity to be closely involved with a company or organisation whilst undertaking their Master’s degree with a specialisation.
This enables students to gain a deeper insight into professional practice and to consolidate and expand on the knowledge they have acquired during their studies.
The standard period of study is 1.5 years full-time or (if possible) 3 years part-time (including the Master’s thesis).
Note:
The master's degree programmes are only available as a ‘Studium mit vertiefter Praxis’ (academic study with intensive in-company training) and must include at least 8.5 months of practical work during the studies. The Master’s thesis is completed in consultation with the university as part of the practical work carried out within the company or organisation and is assessed by the university.

How can you become a cooperation partner?
Please note that the requirements for the pre-placement – i.e. any pre-placement work experience that may be necessary – and the practical semester must be met by your organisation. Please also note that, for engineering degree programmes, continuous supervision by an engineer must be guaranteed. For all other degree programmes, too, specialist supervision must be guaranteed. The supervisor must hold a relevant university degree.
The following applies to Verbundstudium (academic study combined with vocational training): As a rule, the vocational qualification recognised as relevant to the degree programme is listed with the IHK, HWK or StbK.

Please note:
- Anyone interested in a dual study programme or a studies with practice partners must always submit an application separately for a place at Hochschule München and be offered a place! The cooperation agreement does not automatically guarantee a place at Hochschule München. You can use the cut-off marks as a guide.
- Master's degree programmes: To receive admission, applicants must successfully complete the relevant selection procedure.
- If you are on a Verbundstudium (academic study combined with vocational training), you will also need a training contract.
How can you recruit prospective students?
Once you have signed a cooperation agreement, you can submit an application for the dual study programme/study programme with a practice partner (see definition above) through your usual channels, as well as via the ‘Studienplatz Portal’ on the ‘hochschule dual’ website and the ‘Hochschuljobbörse’.
As a partner, you will get the login details for the student placement portal of hochschule dual.

Contract of study
You make a contract of study with the prospective student. The relevant templates can be found on the website of the umbrella organisation hochschule dual (for the cooperative study option in Bavaria).

As the umbrella organisation for the cooperative study option in Bavaria, hochschule dual / BayZiel promotes and supports the Verbundstudium and Studium mit vertiefter Praxis at Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences.
