KEEPA – AI-based development of optimised endolysins and their production as alternatives to antibiotics in the livestock sector

The project aims to develop an environmentally friendly disinfectant or antibiotic alternative for livestock farming to combat Clostridium perfringens using endolysins derived from phages. Efficiency is enhanced through AI-assisted protein design and optimised Pichia expression. In collaboration with universities and companies, the production of stable endolysins and the development of their applications are being advanced to enable a rapid transition to practical use.

BioSysteM – Biosystems Design Munich

The Munich Cluster of Excellence in Biosystem Design (BioSysteM) is establishing an interdisciplinary network for the development and research of tailor-made, complex biomimetic systems, ranging from intelligent supramolecular structures and designer cells to organoid systems. Supporting structures such as technology hubs promote cutting-edge technology and scientific exchange, whilst initiatives contribute to career development, equal opportunities and sustainability.

CellWiTaL – Reproducible cell systems for drug discovery

A high-resolution cell printer using femtosecond lasers is being developed, which specifically identifies, selects and transfers individual living cells onto substrates. Cells from cultures or biopsies can be selected with micrometre precision based on characteristics such as cell size or surface proteins. The aim is to produce functional biological test systems that better replicate complex tissue functions in the pharmaceutical industry and optimise high-throughput screening.
