Information on health insurance for your stay abroad
Contrary to what some statutory health insurance providers may claim, you are not insured through Hochschule München. It is your responsibility to arrange adequate health insurance coverage for yourself during your stay abroad. With your European Health Insurance Card (on the back of your statutory health insurance card), you are partially covered in other European countries, i.e. your health insurance provider will cover some costs. You can obtain detailed information from your health insurance provider. Additional services such as medical repatriation (patient transport) etc. are usually only covered by supplementary international insurance. Please consult your insurance specialist to find out about the options for supplementary insurance.
The DAAD also offers this kind of affordable supplementary travel insurance.
You must, under all circumstances, continue to hold German health insurance, as otherwise you will be de-registered in Germany.
Please note: under the Erasmus+ programme, it is compulsory for interns to be covered by international health insurance and accident and third-party liability insurance valid in the host country. An Erasmus+ internship grant cannot be awarded without cover under these three types of insurance.
