International Staff Exchange
At HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences (HM), we warmly welcome administrative staff from our European partner universities. Through the ERASMUS+ Mobility for Training (STT) program, you have the opportunity to visit Munich and engage in a professional exchange with colleagues from HM.
We value the contributions of our international guests, which play a vital role in fostering the university's internationalisation. To ensure your time with us is both productive and enjoyable, we are committed to making your stay as comfortable as possible.
Our team is here to assist with organisational and administrative matters and to provide guidance regarding your stay in Germany and Munich. For more information, please refer to the details below.
Should you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us.
To ensure an engaging and well-organised visit programme, please submit your application at least two months prior to your planned visit.
Finding a Host
We strongly recommend identifying a contact person or mentor at HM who can host you during your stay and whose area of responsibility aligns with your own. Applications that lack a suitable match are likely to be declined.
If you have not yet found a host, please send us your inquiry via email (contact details are provided at the bottom of this page) and include the following information:
:
- Name, home institution, position
- Proposed dates of your stay (at least 2 days)
- Your CV
- Brief description of your motivation and expected outcomes
you have already contacted someone at HM in a relevant field, kindly share their details with us.
Limitations and Recommendations
Please note that due to limited capacity, we usually do not host individual staff exchanges. Instead, we encourage you to participate in our International Staff Week (details below).
ERASMUS+ Requirements
For ERASMUS+ Staff Mobility for Training (STT), an ERASMUS+ Mobility agreement is required; an Inter-Institutional Agreement is not necessary. Your home university will provide the required documentation for ERASMUS+ funding. If needed, we can issue an invitation letter before your visit and a confirmation of stay afterward.
Costs and Support
HM generally cannot cover any costs associated with your stay. However, we provide access to workplace infrastructure and assistance with organisational and administrative matters to support your visit.
Every two years, the International Office at HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences organises an International Staff Week, primarily designed for employees of our partner universities.
This event offers a diverse programme aimed at fostering networking among partners, providing practical insights into the work at HM, and serving as a platform for exchange among colleagues from various countries.
Details about the next International Staff Week will be published closer to the event. In the meantime, explore the programmes from previous years:
Finding affordable accommodation in Munich can be challenging due to a tight housing market and occasional shortages. For short visits, renting an apartment is often unnecessary—a hotel room will typically suffice. However, if you plan to stay longer and require an apartment, it is essential to start your search well in advance. This is especially important during peak times such as Oktoberfest or major trade fairs.
When renting accommodation, you will usually be required to pay a deposit. This deposit is refundable when you move out, provided no damage has been caused. Rent typically includes both the basic rent and ancillary costs, such as electricity, gas, heating, waste collection, caretaker services, and in some cases, internet and the television license fee.
Important Note: In Germany, it is mandatory to register your residence if you stay for more than three months. Re-registration is also required if you move within Germany. Registration must be done in person and completed within 14 days of moving into your new accommodation. For assistance with this process, please contact us.
For extended stays, the International Office team can support you with accommodation-related queries. Please complete the Accommodation Request Form (PDF download) and send it to the designatedcontact person listed on this page. We will assist you in searching the private housing market. Once a potential option is identified, it will be your responsibility to contact the landlord and finalise all contractual details.
Please note that this accommodation search service is resource-intensive, and we may forward options that do not meet all your preferences. We recommend staying flexible, maintaining realistic price expectations, and carefully considering all available options.
