Biography

Eileen Mandir studied Technical Cybernetics at the University of Stuttgart and subsequently completed a doctorate in Traffic Management. She then spent ten years working in a variety of roles and positions in academia and industry, exploring the future of mobility as a researcher, manager and strategic consultant. Among other projects, she founded the moovel lab, a think tank focused on the future of urban mobility. Since 2016, she has worked as a freelance consultant, supporting organisational transformation processes within companies and institutions, as well as public stakeholder and futures dialogues.

Eileen Mandir explores the implications of technology and social participation through design, using discursive artefacts, participatory formats and scenario videos. Her work has been widely published, including in Fast Company Co.Design, Page, BBC Brasil, ZEIT Online and BILD, and has received numerous awards, including the German Design Award, German Mobility Award and Werner von Siemens Excellence Award. In 2022, her book Zukünfte gestalten was published by Verlag Hermann Schmidt.

From 2017 to 2020, she worked as a freelance lecturer, including for the Design Thinking School of Lufthansa Help Alliance and Quadriga Business School in Berlin. From 2020 to 2022, she was Acting Professor of Strategic Design at HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd. Since 2022, she has been Professor of Systemic Design at the Faculty of Design at Munich University of Applied Sciences. For academic projects, she has collaborated with companies including Bosch, ZEISS, Paulinenpflege, BARMER and ixds.
