Girls' & Boys' Day 2026
New insights into career fields
26/04/2026
How do you programme a robot? What actually goes on in a chemistry lab? During Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day at Hochschule München, 350 schoolgirls and 70 schoolboys were able to find out exactly that and get a taste of university life for a day.
A wide range of workshops across several departments
. In 24 practically-oriented workshops, the pupils got stuck in and tried out various fields of study. For example, at the Department of Applied Sciences and Mechatronics, girls were able to create their own laser engravings on metal, whilst at the Department of Mechanical, Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering, they were able to work with and test molten metal.
The boys, meanwhile, gained an insight into social and care-related fields of work at the Department of Applied Social Sciences. The aim of the day was to learn about degree programmes and career paths, and to be guided not by common gender stereotypes but by their personal interests and talents.
Discovering
new interests For many participants, the day was an opportunity to discover entirely new interests. “I really enjoyed soldering – it’s going to look really cool when it’s finished,” says a young participant who was working on a heart-shaped circuit board with LEDs in her workshop. Another participant is also enthusiastic: “It’s great just to have the chance to try everything out. When do you ever get the chance to do that?” In her workshop, she learnt how to work with hot and red-hot metal.
By taking part in Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day, Hochschule München is setting an example for greater equality of opportunity and open career guidance.
