Munich, 7 May 2026 – The CHE University Ranking, based on surveys of around 120,000 students, is the most comprehensive comparison of higher education institutions in the German-speaking world. Compiled by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) in cooperation with DIE ZEIT, students rate their degree programmes according to criteria such as the organisation of studies, teaching quality, practical relevance and student support on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. This assessment is supplemented by objective facts on teaching and research.
Impressive results for all four degree programmes
This year, HM took part with the bachelor’s degree programmes in Industrial Engineering (Department of Engineering and Management), Production and Automation (Department of Applied Sciences and Mechatronics), Business Administration (HM Business School) and Tourism Management (Department of Tourism). All four degree programmes were rated higher than those of all other universities in at least one category.
Business Administration at the HM Business School receives an outstanding rating
The HM Business School’s performance is outstanding: the Business Administration programme achieved 4.5 out of 5 stars for the general study environment, the highest score of all four HM degree programmes assessed. This is well above the national average of 4.2 stars. The programme also outperforms the average of all compared universities in other categories: the range of courses on offer was rated 4.4 stars (average: 4.1), support from lecturers with 4.4 stars (average: 4.2), support for study abroad with 4.3 stars (average: 4.1) and career and practical orientation with 4.2 stars (average: 4.1). A total of 254 students submitted a rating.
HM scores highly for good programme organisation and range of courses
Another strong point: in the Production and Automation programme, students rated the organisation of the programme at 4.6 out of 5 stars, which is above the national average of 4.4 stars. The programme also scores above average (3.9 stars) for the organisation of examinations, with 4.1 stars. The overall study experience was rated at 4.3 stars by 29 students.
In the Industrial Engineering programme, the organisation of the programme (4.4 stars) and the breadth of the course content (4.4 stars) performed particularly well, scoring above average. 141 students rated the overall study experience with an average of 4.2 stars.
The Tourism Management degree programme also scored highly: in the category ‘Support for study abroad’, it was rated at 4.2 stars, above the national average of 4.1 stars. The overall study experience received an average rating of 4.1 stars from 114 students.
Quality in teaching and studies as a hallmark of the HM
The results of the 2026 CHE Ranking confirm the HM as a university where students consistently have a positive experience of teaching and study conditions. In particular, the close link to professional practice, a well-organised study structure and intensive support from lecturers are strengths that are repeatedly highlighted in the evaluations. HM Vice-President for Innovation and Quality in Education, Prof. Dr. Klaus Kreulich, commented on the performance of HM’s degree programmes: “The results show once again that Hochschule München offers its students excellent study conditions. I am particularly pleased that our practically-oriented approach, the high quality of Teaching and the intensive support are perceived so positively.”
