Vehicle Design Award and 4th place in the Shell Eco-Marathon
HM students develop an efficient hydrogen-powered vehicle with an outstanding design
05/08/2026
The Hydro2Motion team from Hochschule München (HM) has won the Vehicle Design Award at the Europe-wide Shell Eco-Marathon 2026 with its hydrogen-powered vehicle, the ‘Phoenix’. The prize is worth 3,000 US dollars. The ‘Phoenix’ finished fourth in the overall standings.
Long range with low energy consumption
The aim of the competition is to build the most efficient vehicle. The prize is awarded not for speed, but for the vehicles’ range. The HM ‘Phoenix’ can travel 743.1 kilometres on one cubic metre of gaseous hydrogen. Compared with an internal combustion engine, this is equivalent to a fuel consumption of 0.04 litres of petrol per 100 kilometres.
Team spirit and wealth of experience
35 HM students contributed to the Hydro2Motion team’s success. Team Leader Luca Staudenraus is delighted with the excellent result: “As well as the results, we’re taking away, above all, valuable experience, an even stronger team spirit and plenty of motivation for the coming season.”
Anyone interested can find further information on Instagram. Hydro2Motion is currently looking to recruit new staff in the field of electrical engineering.
