HM students win the City of Munich’s Innovation Award

Students at Hochschule München (HM) are developing the “TreeQuest” app. The City of Munich has awarded the app’s prototype its Innovation Prize. The tool enables school pupils to explore the city’s tree population in a fun and interactive way. At the same time, they are helping to update geographical data.

Data collection with educational value

The app encourages young people to explore the trees in their neighbourhood. Missions, treasure hunts and milestone badges help to keep them motivated. At the same time, users collect data on Munich’s tree population. This data is made available to the city. Peer von Bremen and Philipp Gsell, students at HM, are developing the app. Once the app is complete, it will be available for use in Munich’s schools.

Data protection is a priority

Young people’s personal data will remain protected. “We will use the information gathered in accordance with data protection regulations and apply it in a targeted manner to maintain and improve the quality of life in Munich,” explains Edwin Grodeke, Head of the Local Government Department.

A demo version of the app will soon be available on the TreeQuest website.
