Orientation Days at HM

This year again, a large number of international exchange students are coming to Hochschule München for one or two semesters. At the start of the 2026/27 winter semester, the International Office welcomed 170 students from 29 different countries at their Orientation Day.

Cultural exchange

During this Orientation Day, exchange students receive important information about their studies at HM and about life in Munich. At the same time, the event offers an excellent opportunity to engage with other students from all over the world and make new contacts.
For many international students coming to HM, cultural exchange is just as important as the courses they are going to take at HM: “I’m looking forward to getting to know international students and German culture. To me, German culture is really very interesting,” says Juho from Finland.

Why Hochschule München?

There are many reasons for choosing HM as host university: personal recommendations play just as much a part as Germany’s strong reputation for example in the field of engineering.
Maia from Bordeaux is studying aerospace engineering and hopes to benefit from the different courses at HM: “At HM, there are a number of subjects that we don’t have at my home university and that I’d like to try out. In France, we focus more on aeroplanes, whereas here the emphasis is more on aerospace.”

For Ivet from Mexico, the quality of engineering degree programmes in Germany is a particular focus: “I’ve heard that Germany is a good place to study engineering”.
Jimena is studying at a University of Applied Sciences in Mexico: “My university is also a University of Applied Sciences, and I think it's a very good system. That’s why I chose HM.”

Discover new perspectives, languages and cultures

As well as their studies, the students want to get to know Munich and Germany and gain new experiences. Maia is particularly looking forward to trying German food and exploring the local area.
For Alison from Mexico, who is studying architecture, the focus is above all on personal experience: “I would like to be open to every opportunity here. And I would really like to learn German.”

Munich's location, with its proximity to the mountains, is also very appealing to some students. Valeria from Mexico is looking forward to exploring the mountains of Bavaria: “I know that Bavaria is really well known for hiking.”
For Juho, it's the Alps and football: “I’m a big fan of snowboarding and the Alps are very close by. I also love football and would love to go to an FC Bayern München match.”
