Press invitation: Conference ‘Commoning Spaces! Activating spaces for the common good’, 19–21 October
The Hans Sauer Foundation and the Department of Architecture at Hochschule München (HM) are pleased to invite you to the conference ‘Commoning Spaces! Activating spaces for the common good’.
14/10/2026
At the conference, leading figures from both the theoretical and practical sides of fields such as urban development, architecture, planning, public administration, politics and law will discuss vacant spaces and the possibilities for their use in the public interest. During the conference, the Hans Sauer Prize will be awarded for outstanding projects.
Projects such as the debate surrounding the former Justice Centre have demonstrated just how relevant the discourse on vacancy and the use of space in the public interest is.
The competition is open to projects, organisations and initiatives from Germany that are active in the field of public-benefit use. A panel of experts selected the winners from over 300 submissions.
Dates: Monday to Wednesday, 19–21 October 2026
Venue: Auditorium, Department of Architecture | Karlstraße 6, Munich
