Press invitation: Opening of ‘Flaggenzeug #3 – A Tribute to Rupprecht Geiger’, 20 October 2026
The Department of Design at Hochschule München (HM) is presenting an exhibition on the theme of ‘flagging’ in collaboration with the Geiger Archive

The Department of Design at Hochschule München (HM) is hosting the third edition of the ‘Flaggenzeug’ event on 20 October 2026. The event encourages a playful approach to a topic that carries historical baggage, particularly in Germany. The curators are inviting creative professionals from various disciplines to decorate the historic façade of the Department of Design with flags in an unconventional manner, with the aim of discovering new rituals and cultural patterns for an object that fosters a sense of identity.
The third edition of the ‘Flaggenzeug’ project creates a striking contrast between the two flags in vibrant red/pink and orange and the historic façade of the former armoury at Lothstraße 17 – now home to the Department of Design. In close collaboration with the Geiger Archive, which has been overseeing Geiger’s artistic oeuvre since 2010, a tribute to Rupprecht Geiger has been created, intended to introduce his work at the Munich University of Applied Sciences (HM) to younger generations of students. As part of Flaggenzeug #3, visits to the Geiger Archive and the Nemetschek House will be offered.
