26/10/2026
On 20 October 2026, HM President Sonja Munz welcomed a delegation from the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) for an exchange visit to HM. The delegation was led by Professor Chua Kee Chaing, President of SIT, along with Professor Lam Khin Yong, Senior Adviser for International Engagements, and Andrew Chia, Senior Manager of the Global Experience Division. The visit marked an important step towards further strengthening relations between HM and SIT and opened up prospects for future collaboration in teaching and research with the Asia-Pacific
region. Strengthening
future collaboration During the Singapore delegation’s visit, it was agreed to carry out a mapping exercise to identify potential areas of cooperation. In addition, opportunities for student exchanges, participation in Summer Schools and an international immersion programme are to be explored and further developed.
Discussions revealed that HM and SIT share similar approaches in several areas: strategic orientation, teaching and research, and practice-oriented degree programmes. SIT sees itself as a university of applied learning and works closely with industry and society. Like HM, it places an emphasis on practically-oriented teaching and Applied Research in areas such as Sustainable Infrastructure Development, Intelligent Systems & AI, Robotics, Smart Manufacturing, and Tourism & Hospitality.
New, forward-looking SIT main campus
As part of the exchange, the SIT also presented the development of its new main campus in the Punggol Digital District (PDD). In recent years, the university has consolidated its sites, which were previously spread across Singapore, and has now relocated entirely to this forward-looking location. The new SIT Punggol campus serves as a ‘living lab’ where teaching, industry partnerships and sustainable development are directly interlinked.
BayAP – the Bavarian University and Innovation Centre for Asia-Pacific
The Singaporean delegation’s visit also included the launch of the Bavarian University and Innovation Centre for Asia-Pacific (BayAP). At the launch event, President Chua signed a Memorandum of Understanding between BayAP and SIT – a further step towards strengthening Bavarian-Singaporean higher education ties. The newly established higher education centre, based in Singapore, serves as a central point of contact for Bavarian universities and innovation stakeholders to develop contacts and partnerships in Singapore, Malaysia and across the Asia-Pacific region.
