New and appointed
An interview with Fabienne Will, Professor of History
02/11/2026
In the series ‘New and Appointed’, Hochschule München (HM) introduces professors who joined the university at the start of the semester. Prof. Dr. Fabienne Will is originally from near Würzburg and has been a professor at HM in the Department of General and Interdisciplinary Studies since the summer semester of 2026. In this interview, she talks about her motivation for her field of specialism and her new role at HM.
HM: What is your field of specialism?
Global history deals with historical phenomena beyond purely national or European perspectives. Today, people are deeply intertwined with global and environmental historical processes that transcend political boundaries. Historical education encourages us to better understand the present and to view it from different perspectives.
HM: What motivates you to teach at the HM?
I am particularly motivated to encourage students at a practice-oriented university to reflect on complex societal challenges from different disciplinary and cultural perspectives, and to understand historical perspectives as an important component of responsible and forward-looking action. It is precisely the HM’s interdisciplinary profile that offers a unique space for linking historical questions with contemporary issues from fields such as sustainability, technology, design or the social sciences.
HM: What was the highlight of your year?
The opening of the exhibition I curated, *Planetary Health. At the Heart of Humanity and the Planet at the Deutsches Museum, as well as my start at HM.
