A talk on how financial inequalities arise over the course of a person’s life, which structural factors play a role in this, and why financial independence is a key issue for gender equality.
On average, women earn less, are more likely to take on unpaid care work and receive lower pensions in old age. The gender pay gap therefore has an impact far beyond working life and leads to the gender pension gap
As well as exploring the background issues, the talk will also look at specific courses of action: what can women themselves do to achieve financial independence, and where are structural changes needed?
