Name: Andrea Nagy
Professor of: Child and Youth Welfare, Educational Support
I’m from: I was born in Stuttgart. When I was eight, my family moved to Tyrol, where I went to school.
Previously, I worked as: I spent my studies first in Innsbruck, then in New Orleans, London and Vienna. After completing my studies, I worked in the field of social pedagogy within child and youth welfare services in Austria and South Tyrol. I then embarked on my academic career, which took me to several universities in Austria and Italy as a lecturer and researcher. Most recently, from 2018 onwards, I was staff at the Free University of Bolzano as a researcher.
My research focused on welfare, social services and user research – particularly with care leavers – as well as comparative transition research. In this work, I have utilised practice-based and action research methods, as well as participatory approaches.
Since 2023, I have had the privilege of contributing as a Professor at Hochschule München. I am particularly pleased to be able to share with students my international perspective on child and youth welfare, as well as my specialist knowledge at the interface between theory and practice.
My area of expertise and my motivation for teaching it:
Child and youth welfare is a field of great social importance; the conditions under which the next generation grows up depend on it. It is up to us to shape these conditions. I am deeply passionate about training the skilled professionals needed for this task.
My highlight of the year
Spending a balmy August evening in a rowing boat on Lake Kaltern, knowing that the next day she would be welcomed as a Professor at Hochschule München.
My leisure tip
I recommend making the most of the wide range of university sports on offer. Personally, I’m really looking forward to the rowing and fitness boxing courses.
