New & Appointed
Name: Verena Tobsch
Professor of: Human Resource Management, specialising in diversity and AI at HM Business School
I’m from Berlin, but I was born and brought up in Schönebeck/Elbe in Saxony-Anhalt.
Previously, I served as CEO and co-founder of INES Analytics GmbH – an all-female-led IT start-up spun off from academic research, which uses data to help companies facilitate fair working conditions and automatically comply with statutory reporting requirements regarding diversity. In addition, for the past 10 years I have been Managing Director and co-founder of an independent social and economic research institute – INES Berlin. Prior to that, I conducted research as a research fellow at various universities and research institutions in Germany, the USA, the UK and South Korea.
My area of expertise in a word
... and my motivation for teaching there:
DEI – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in organisations can only be achieved on the basis of evidence-based research. Through my research, I aim to help make fairness and the absence of discrimination in the use of AI (particularly in the field of human resource management) measurable. In my teaching, I focus on approaches that closely integrate research and practice, and I aim to inspire students to adopt a critical perspective.
My highlight of the year
To be able to devote myself fully once again to academic research and Teaching as a Professor at Hochschule München.
