How can I help if I witness discriminatory behaviour?
First point of contact for anti-discrimination
If you have witnessed discriminatory behaviour, there are steps you can take to support those affected in a difficult situation.
Intervention by bystanders can often be very helpful and important for those affected. If you are not sure exactly what you can do, speak to the person concerned and offer your support. Make it clear that you do not accept discriminatory behaviour.
Make sure you document the discriminatory behaviour, not least as a reminder to yourself, so that you can testify to the facts of the matter should a dispute arise later. Take care not to act against the wishes of the person being discriminated against, and reflect on your own behaviour with regard to any potentially discriminatory actions or remarks.
If the situation is affecting you emotionally or if you would like to discuss the matter further, you can contact the points of contact at the Anti-Discrimination first point of contact.
By taking action in such situations, you can take a stand and thereby send a further message against discrimination.
