How can I help if I see someone being sexually harassed?
First point of contact for anti-discrimination
Even if you have witnessed sexual harassment, there are steps you can take to support those affected in a distressing situation. Help from bystanders can often be very useful and important to those affected.
If you are not sure exactly what to do, speak to the person concerned and offer your support. Make it clear that you do not accept this behaviour.
Document the situation, not least as a reminder for yourself, so that you can bear witness to the facts should a dispute arise later. Ensure that you do not act against the will of the person being sexually harassed, and reflect on your own behaviour with regard to any potentially sexually harassing actions or comments.
If the situation is affecting you emotionally or if you would like to discuss the matter further, you can contact the points of contact at the Anti-Discrimination first point of contact.
Through your actions in such situations, you can take a stand and thereby send a further message opposing sexual harassment and disrespect.
