Hochschule München responds to the needs of a changing society and is committed to family-friendliness and diversity, as diversity fosters creativity and innovation. This is reflected, among other things, in family-friendly study and working conditions that ensure the compatibility of studies, work and family life, as well as supporting a healthy work-life balance for all students and staff at HM.
Since 2011, Hochschule München has been a member of the Best Practice Club, which is now organised as the association Familie in der Hochschule e.V.
Familie in der Hochschule e.V. is an alliance of universities, colleges and academic institutions that have set themselves the task of providing support for work on family-friendliness and promoting public awareness of the issue. Between 2008 and 2014, 12 higher education institutions worked together with the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) on projects to support families and ultimately developed a charter on the compatibility of family responsibilities with studies, teaching, research and academic support activities at German higher education institutions, which was published in early 2014.
At the first annual conference in May 2014, the first universities and academic institutions had the opportunity to sign the charter and join the Best Practice Club. By joining, member universities commit themselves, amongst other things, to collegial exchange, mutual support in implementing the Charter standards, and taking on tasks within the Best Practice Club. In doing so, the member universities take on the responsibility of promoting family-friendliness and supporting students and staff in their family responsibilities.
To date, in addition to Hochschule München, more than 150 other universities and academic institutions have signed the Charter and joined the Familie in der Hochschule e.V. association. Public interest is growing steadily, and new institutions join every year.
