Chemicals Management at BEC
Supply of small quantities under certain conditions
The purchase, handling and storage of chemicals usually involve a fair amount of effort and expense, and are subject to technical requirements. As only a small quantity of certain chemicals is sometimes required for experiments or preliminary tests, it does not always make sense to purchase them, particularly as any remaining chemicals must subsequently be stored safely or disposed of at considerable expense.
To conserve resources, it is possible to request chemicals from the BEC and, if available, to obtain them in small quantities. The university’s internal distribution of chemicals is subject to certain conditions.
Distribution to HM staff members
- Chemicals may only be supplied for scientific purposes and only for working at HM
- Hazardous substances must only be disposed of in suitable, labelled containers
- Knowledge of how to handle the hazardous substance safely (safety data sheet)
Submission by students (e.g. Bachelor’s and Master’s students)
- CMR substances may only be issued following authorisation by the line manager or the person responsible for the relevant area
- Chemicals may only be supplied for scientific purposes and only for working at HM

If larger quantities of chemicals are required, these must be procured by the departments and faculties themselves.
