Summer semester: 15 November to 15 January.
Yes. If you are applying for several degree programmes in higher semesters, you must complete a separate application form for each programme and upload the required documents for each application, as the applications will be forwarded to different examination boards.
Yes, provided that the basic requirements for an application are met.
... submit two applications?
Yes, two complete applications must be uploaded.
Applications to progress to a higher semester are possible from the second semester onwards.
You can find an overview of the required documents in the information sheet ‘Guidance on the application for progress to a higher semester’. (Availabel in German only)
Even when submitting an application within Hochschule München, all the documents listed in the information sheet for applying to a higher semester must be uploaded. The only documents that are not required are an official transcript of records (the online transcript is sufficient in this case) and the certificate of academic progress.
Placement is determined following an assessment of the documents by the relevant examination board. It is therefore not necessary to specify a semester when submitting the application.
Whether a student is granted admission, and to which semester, depends on the amount of their transferred credits and examination results. This decision is up to the exam board of the department and we cannot give any information about transfer of credits in advance.
No, a certificate of withdrawal does not need to be submitted until you enrol again, if you do so.
… even though I have already been derolled at another university for failing exams on the same or a similar degree programme?
If a student has definitively failed an examination in an identical degree programme at another higher education institution, they cannot be admitted to that degree programme at Hochschule München.
Yes, that is possible. The decisive factor in determining whether you are eligible to submit an application is not the individual module, but the degree programme as a whole.
There is no restriction on making multiple applications for a degree programme.
Some degree programmes have restricted admission in higher semesters. You can find out which degree programmes these are in the information sheet on the application for admission to a later semester. (in German only)
The programmestatutes on admission quotas also specify which higher semesters are with restricted admission.
for the winter semester: around the beginning of September
for the summer semester: around the end of February
The results of your application can be viewed via the online applicant status service . In some cases, the examination boards’ decisions may be delayed.
If there is restricted admission, a selection procedure must be carried out in the event that the number of applications received exceeds the number of available places. Places are allocated first to students at the HM and then to other applicants.
… I’d like to have transferred?
Yes, you must specify yourself which credits you have already achieved are to be recognised for which subjects in your intended degree programme at HM.
… and who can give me an assessment, before I submit an application, as to whether it’s even worth the effort?
Decisions on the transfer of credits are always made solely by the examination board for the relevant degree programme once an application has been received. It is therefore not possible to provide information on potential recognition prior to submitting an application.
Applicants can decide for themselves which subjects they wish to have recognised. Only these have to be added to the form for transfer of credits.
As a general rule, an application for recognition of academic achievements and examination results must be submitted at the same time as the application to progress to a higher semester. Recognition at a later date is only possible in exceptional circumstances.
As a general rule, failed attempts to change degree programmes will count count towards your new degree at HM.
Please ensure that your application is received by Hochschule München in the correct format and by the deadline. Even if you are already studying at Hochschule München, you will need to provide all the required documents when submitting an application to progress to a higher semester. This is because a decision on your application can only be made once all the required documents have been uploaded in full. It is particularly important, when applying for more than one degree programme, to ensure that the documents for each programme are uploaded in full, since we forward your application and relevant documents to the exam board of the different degrees.
