Career Center – Application photo

The application photo should be placed either on the cover page or on the CV (top right-hand corner). Including a photo with the application is permitted and quite common in Germany (though not compulsory); however, in many other countries around the world, this is not permitted on grounds of discrimination.

Criteria for a good application photo:

• Timeliness / Recognition
• Professional photograph (not a photo from a photo booth, holiday snap, selfie, etc.)
• Max. size: 6 x 9 cm
• Portrait or landscape format
• Kind regards
• Clothing appropriate to the company and the role
• Muted colours, understated accessories (take care with scarves, for example)
• Creative professions = creative application photo
