Career Center – Online Application
Information on online applications
The online application
As a general rule, you will need to prepare the usual documents for online applications: a covering letter, a cover sheet and your CV, a summary of your qualifications and your certificates, and possibly a personal statement and references. The companies’ websites or the job advertisement will usually set out in detail the application procedure the company requires. You should follow these guidelines.
Application by email
- You should write a short, polite message in the email, referring to the application attached; don’t forget to include your signature.
- Please state the job title/reference number in the subject line of the email.
- Set up a professional email address (not bussibärli@....).
- First, send the email to yourself or to a friend to check that it arrives correctly.
- In our experience, you should send three attachments containing the most important documents: 1. the cover letter, 2. the cover sheet and CV, 3. the list of qualifications and supporting documents. The attachments should be PDF files and have meaningful and descriptive file names (e.g. Mustermann_Erika_Application.pdf).
- Please note any restrictions on data volumes imposed by the recipient; as a general rule, you should not send more than 2–4 MB.
Online applications via the company’s portal or other job portals
- Here you can paste the prepared sections of your application into the relevant fields (be careful when copying and pasting, as the formatting may have changed).
- In most cases, you can also upload your application documents, so these should be prepared to a professional standard.
- Please ensure that you adhere to the specified data volumes and formats here as well.
