References (optional)
- Recommendations and references from impartial advocates can open further doors after you’ve secured a job. Any suspicion of favouritism, excessive closeness or personal interest damages the employer’s reputation. A reputable referee is someone who has taught you, mentored you or employed you. This could be, for example, a Professor, a mentor or a former line manager. References from sports teammates, club mates or relatives are generally not suitable.
- A reference is always written in the first person and provides an objective account of the person being assessed.
- References can be mentioned either in the covering letter or at the end of the CV (the letters of reference should then be attached). It is also possible to draw up a separate list of referees and their contact details (title, name, direct line and/or email, position, organisation and legal form, town or city).
- It is important to ensure that the applicant informs their referees. If this is not the case, the referees are not permitted to provide any information for data protection reasons.
