Maintenance, BAföG, part-time work, scholarships – studies usually have to be funded from a variety of sources.
On this page and in our information leaflet, you can find out all about scholarships, support for gifted students, funding for your studies and funding opportunities for study abroad programmes.
The German Student Services Organisation (Deutsches Studierendenwerk) and the Munich and Upper Bavaria Student Services Organisation (Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern) also provide an initial overview of the main sources of funding for studies.

The Deutschlandstipendium (Germany scholarship)
Get ready to submit an application for funding from the 2024/25 winter semester onwards
The time has finally come! Applications for the Deutschlandstipendium (Germany scholarship) are now open for a new round, and the current call for applications has been published.
Applications are open to both students currently enrolled at Hochschule München and those applying for a place at the university. Candidates who can demonstrate above-average academic performance during their studies or at school, and who are also actively involved in social or subject-specific initiatives, have a good chance of being awarded a scholarship. Furthermore, social and family circumstances may be taken into account in the selection process.
Online applications may be submitted between 22 April and 15 May 2024 inclusive.

Munich and Upper Bavaria Student Services Organisation
The Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern is offering a range of talks on the topic of ‘Finance and Studies’ during the winter semester, covering not only BAföG but also scholarships in general and individual foundations. Details of the programme can be found directly on the Studierendenwerk’s website.
Money for specialist literature and learning materials
Oskar-Karl-Forster Book Scholarship
Submissions for the Oskar-Karl-Forster Book Scholarship can now be made once again.
“Reading a book – for me, that’s like exploring a universe,” said the French writer Marguerite Duras.
HM students can read many books thanks to the Oskar-Karl-Forster Book Grant: as part of the grant, they have the opportunity to be reimbursed up to 500 euros for specialist books and other learning resources, where applicable.

Care grants
Students enrolled on undergraduate nursing degree programmes can apply for scholarships from the Bavarian State Office for Nursing. The grant amounts to 600 euros per month for a maximum of 36 months. Applications must be received by the Bavarian State Office for Nursing before the start of the semester. Full details on the award of these scholarships can be found on the website of the Bavarian State Office for Nursing.

Information Fair on Scholarships and Student Finance
Students and prospective students can find out about the various types of support and funding available for their studies, and the opportunities that a scholarship can open up, at the Student Advice Centre’s information fair on scholarships and student finance.
The event will begin at 11 am, after which foundations, sponsors and scholarship holders will provide first-hand information. No registration is required, and entry to the fair is free.

- Information on individual government and private funding schemes, as well as
- on funding opportunities for study abroad during your studies,

- as well as guidance and tips on submitting an application for a scholarship in general.
Not just for the highly gifted
Information Fair on Scholarships and Student Finance
On 12 December, students and prospective students at Hochschule München had the opportunity to find out more about scholarships and student finance at a fair.
From 11 am to 3 pm, various foundations, funding partners and scholarship holders were guests at the university’s Learning Center, providing first-hand information. Following the opening of the fair, a total of 18 exhibitors were on hand to answer questions: they highlighted the funding options available during studies, where to find voluntary work or build networks, and the opportunities that a scholarship can open up.
Social commitment counts for a lot
In the process, a number of myths about scholarships were dispelled. It became clear that scholarships are not intended solely for highly gifted students, but that various other eligibility criteria are also taken into account when awarding them.
Social engagement, for example, is at least as important as good grades when it comes to being accepted onto a support programme run by state-funded organisations for gifted students. Furthermore, social and family circumstances are often taken into account in the selection process. The scope of support also varies; in addition to financial support, many foundations also offer non-financial support in the form of networks and seminars.
