What is an AW subject?
‘AW-Fach’ stands for ‘General Sciences Elective’. During your studies (for a bachelor's degree), you are generally required to choose and pass two of these.

When can students start taking AW subjects?
The departments’ study and examination regulations set out the deadlines by which AW subjects must be taken. If you have any questions, please contact the relevant person in the Examination and Internship Office .
Compulsory AW modules may be taken from the first semester onwards, even if this is stated otherwise in the departments’ study and examination regulations. Please bear this in mind if, for example, you wish to obtain a certificate (UNIcert®, European Studies or a university certificate) that is structured across several consecutive semesters.

Only students who are enrolled and have re-registered on time.

How does enrolment work for compulsory AW modules?
By lottery, approximately 2 to 3 weeks before the start of the semester.
You can select a maximum of 10 AW subjects from a subject catalogue and rank them in order of priority.
You are automatically registered for the examination in the subject you have been allocated.

What is manual reallocation and reassignment?
If you have not yet been allocated all the subjects you require following the second allocation round, it is possible to enrol manually.
If the timetables in your department have changed, you may be able to re-enrol.
Can I take more than the two compulsory AW subjects?
Yes, you can take as many optional AW subjects (FAW) as you like.
However, you will not receive any ECTS credits for AW modules taken on a voluntary basis.

How do I register for exams in compulsory AW subjects?
When you enrol online for the AW elective module, you are automatically registered for the examination for that module. There is no need to register for the examination again.
How do I register for the FAW (exam)?
- Registration is to be made by emailto the lecturer responsible for the course in question.
- Exam registration takes place via PRIMUSS during the general exam registration period.
