Practical Training Semester

Admission to the internship

You will be admitted to the Practical Training Semester as soon as you have met the admission requirements set out in the study and examination regulations applicable to you.

Contract approval

Once you have found an internship company, please submit your internship contract to the Internship Officer for your degree programme for academic approval.

Please register your internship exclusively via PRIMUSS Online Services > Services > Internship Management with immediate effect.

Status during the internship

During the Practical Training Semester, you remain a member of Hochschule München, with the rights and obligations set out in the University’s Constitution. With regard to the internship company, you are obliged to comply with the instructions issued by the organisation and by persons acting on its behalf that are necessary to achieve the training objectives, and to observe the regulations applicable to the internship company (in particular work regulations, accident prevention regulations and regulations concerning confidentiality).

Participation in the practical-based modules

The internship company is obliged to enable you to attend the practical training courses and sit the associated examinations. The internship company is under no obligation to grant you leave of absence to attend courses or sit examinations relating to theoretical semesters.

Working hours during the internship, days of absence

The daily working hours correspond to the working hours stipulated in the collective agreement for the internship company. As the practical training forms part of your studies, you are not entitled to annual leave. The internship company may grant short-term leave of absence for personal reasons. During lecture-free time, you are required to undertake the practical training five days a week. Any interruptions to the practical training must, as a rule, be made up. It is therefore recommended that any absences (due to illness, company holidays or leave for personal reasons) be made up immediately after the contractually agreed internship period has ended, or that the internship contract be extended in advance. In particularly justified exceptional cases, the requirement to make up the missed time may be waived in the event of a short-term interruption. Internship certificate

Once you have completed your internship, the internship company where you undertook it must issue you with an internship certificate.

Please submit your internship certificate exclusively via PRIMUSS Online Services > Services > Internship Management with immediate effect.

NOTE

You can submit your certificates for completed pre-internships via PRIMUSS Online Services > Services > Applications and Messages > Select application/form > Practical Training Semester. Please select ‘Submission of Pre-Internship Certificate’ and then upload your certificate.

Social security

The ruling of the Federal Social Court of 17 December 1980 (Case No. 12 RK 10/79) has established as a matter of law that, during your Practical Training Semester, you are not subject to compulsory insurance under the rules applicable to employees.

You are therefore exempt from insurance and contributions under the pension and unemployment insurance schemes; under the health insurance scheme for students, you are subject to the provisions of Section 5 (1) Sentence 1 Number 9 and 10 Book V of the German Social Insurance Code.

Consequently, students who are currently undertaking a Practical Training Semester are not required to pay health insurance contributions like employees.

Third-party liability insurance

At the request of the internship company, students must take out civil liability insurance that is tailored to the duration and content of the internship contract.

Accident at work

During your practical training, you are insured against accidents at work by law through the employers’ liability insurance association responsible for your internship company. However, this insurance cover does not apply if the practical training is undertaken abroad.

Under certain conditions, work experience gained before starting your studies may, where applicable, be used for academic credit transfer towards the Practical Training Semester.
