Double Degree programme between HM and ULPGC

In August 2025, Ilona M. became the first graduate to complete the double bachelor’s programme between Hochschule München and the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), achieving the top mark of 10 for her bachelor’s thesis: in addition to her degree from Hochschule München, she also obtained a bachelor’s degree from one of Spain’s most prestigious universities.

International Conference on ‘TOURISM: ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT’

At the end of November, the student had the opportunity to attend the international conference 'TOURISM: ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT' at the Università di Siena, together with her supervisors, Professor Dr Ralph Berchtenbreiter from HM and Professor Dr Desiderio J. García Almeida from ULPGC. There, she presented her bachelor’s thesis, 'Exploring visitors’ willingness to pay a tourism tax as a tool to enhance tourism sustainability on islands: An application to Gran Canaria', to a distinguished audience. Those present – colleagues from three continents – were delighted.

Professor Dr Ralph Berchtenbreiter was also delighted to have the opportunity to take part in this conference: 'It is always enriching to exchange ideas with international colleagues, have inspiring discussions and work together to develop future research and teaching collaborations.'

Aula Germánica: a space for exchange and cooperation

His Spanish colleague and long-standing guest lecturer at HM, Professor Dr Desiderio J. García Almeida, is supporting the partnership on behalf of the ULPGC. He has now founded the Aula Germánica, which is dedicated to academic, professional and cultural cooperation between the Canary Islands and the DACH regions.
