Cycling for the climate
HM is taking part in Munich’s STADTRADELN
26/05/2026
Whether on the way to university, out shopping or in your free time: every kilometre counts in the STADTRADELN campaign. Hochschule München is once again taking part in this nationwide initiative and is calling on all staff members to join in from 15 June to 5 July and work together to clock up kilometres for climate protection and sustainable mobility.
A dedicated HM team has already been set up. Staff members can register easily and join the “Hochschule München” team with immediate effect. Cycling can be for work or leisure – the main thing is that the journeys are made by bike.
As an added incentive, participants can win a total of five vouchers from Lucky Bike, each worth 20 euros. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third-placed participants with the most kilometres cycled. In addition, two further vouchers will be raffled off amongst all participants who have cycled at least 20 kilometres. This means that even occasional cyclists have a chance of winning.
Leading
by example, HM Professor Klaus Kreulich, Vice-President for Innovation and Quality in Education, expressly supports the campaign: “I enjoy cycling because it allows me to easily combine everyday life, exercise and climate protection. For HM, sustainable mobility is a key factor in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions – that’s why we support ‘Stadtradeln’ and want to encourage as many people as possible to switch to cycling.”
HM Chancellor Jörg Finger is also a committed everyday cyclist: “For me, despite living on the outskirts of the city, the bicycle is the fastest mode of transport. At the same time, cycling is an ideal form of exercise and helps me clear my head between work and my private life.” He added that City Cycling is also “a great initiative as part of our climate protection strategy to raise awareness of mobility as the biggest factor in our carbon footprint”.
How does City Cycling work?
During the 21-day campaign period, participants aim to clock up as many kilometres as possible by bike. Anyone who lives, works or studies in Munich can take part – including all HM staff members.
The kilometres cycled can be tracked automatically via the STADTRADELN app or entered online in your personal kilometre log. Offline participation is also possible. All kilometres cycled for work or personal reasons
count – regardless of where they are covered. Journeys on stationary bikes or during cycling competitions are not counted.
It is still possible to join the campaign during the campaign period. Teams and participants can register right up until the last day of the campaign.
Further information and the registration form can be found on the STADTRADELN FAQ page.
