Scientific Paper Writing (elective module)
This online seminar covers topics such as the publication process in a scientific journal, difficulties in publishing in scientific journals, writing an effective abstract, preparing a paper manuscript for a scientific journal and dealing with constructive text feedback.
06.03.2025 - 03.04.2025
Contents:
The course provides both a theoretical and practical introduction to the professional publishing of articles in scientific journals and is divided into three parts:
In the first and second online workshops, the theoretical foundation is laid, in which participants receive an introduction to the publication process in scientific journals. Topics include writing an abstract, preparing a manuscript for a specialist article, the peer review process, dealing professionally with feedback and general dos and don'ts when publishing. In view of current developments and depending on the needs of the participants the topic of “Scientific writing with AI” can also be addressed. Using concrete examples the content will be developed and discussed interactively in groups and in plenary sessions.
In the asynchronous online phase of 2 weeks, the participants should apply the content they have learned to their own publication projects and work on a scientific paper (working time for the participants approx. 7 hours). The course instructor supports this phase with regular writing impulses (by e-mail) and individual expert feedback (by e-mail, telephone or video conference) on the respective text drafts.
In the third online workshop, the participants' drafts are discussed in the group and critically reflected upon by simulating a peer-to-peer review process as a simulation game. Participants send the texts (abstracts and papers) they have developed in the asynchronous phase to two other participants, who take on the role of reviewers and carry out a peer review. The simulation is then reflected upon and learning potentials for the future are derived.
