Professional development programme
Doctoral candidates and scientific staff at the HM undertake a professional development programme comprising compulsory and compulsory elective modules. The courses are designed to develop subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills and to provide the best possible support for academic work.

Compulsory and compulsory elective modules
Scientific staff at the HM are required, under the terms of their employment contract, to successfully complete the following courses within the first 12 months of their employment:
• Academic work (2.5 days of classes)
• Good Scientific Practice (1 day’s course).
These courses are offered regularly by the Graduate School. You can find the upcoming dates here .
In addition to the compulsory modules, doctoral candidates must also take elective modules. According to the Framework Doctoral Regulations, doctoral candidates at doctoral research centres must attend elective modules totalling at least 14 hours. Doctoral candidates pursuing a cooperative doctorate must provide evidence of having attended at least two modules.
Through the elective modules, doctoral candidates can develop their soft skills and advance their subject-specific or subject-related knowledge. They can choose from a range of courses according to their needs and interests. Of course, candidates are also permitted to take more than two compulsory elective courses.
