Internationalisation@home
Whether it’s the international buddy programme for doctoral candidates, language courses or the International Club: make the most of our opportunities to engage with the international community whilst pursuing your doctorate at HM.
Through our ‘Internationalisation@home’ initiatives, we aim to offer all doctoral candidates an international environment during their doctorate and to foster international and intercultural skills. Doctoral candidates can develop their international skills and prepare for the increasingly globalised labour market not only during a period abroad, but also whilst studying for their doctorate at the HM.
Become a support buddy for international doctoral candidates!
Are you a doctoral candidate at HM and interested in making international contacts? Then take part in the HM Graduate School’s Buddy Programme and help international doctoral candidates get started at HM.
The Buddy Programme offers you a great opportunity to make international contacts and experience an intercultural and linguistic exchange. Would you like to go abroad yourself one day, for example for a research placement? With a bit of luck, we can put you in touch with someone who comes from exactly that country and can share their knowledge of it with you. Language tandems can also be formed.
Curious? You can find more information in our leaflet.

The free foreign language courses offered through Dept 13 are open to both staff and registered doctoral candidates at the HM. Ten different languages are on offer, including French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese and Turkish.
Doctoral candidates may sit the examination at the end of the course and obtain a certificate. Unfortunately, external doctoral candidates are not eligible to take part.
Registration:
- Research staff members can register by email via Ms Mahalia Wandelt-Peröti
- Registered doctoral candidates can find details on how to register under ‘Course enrolment for Master’s students and doctoral candidates’
The HM’s International Club (I-Club), a meeting place for students from Munich and all over the world, is also open to doctoral candidates. International doctoral candidates and German doctoral candidates are invited to join the excursions and the regular international get-together (Get2Gether), or to get involved in the I-Club and actively help organise events.
