Apply for a professorship at Hochschule München. Hochschule München expressly encourages women to submit applications for vacant professorships.
Over the next few years, many professorial posts at Hochschule München will need to be filled. This is partly due to the impending generational change, as many of the current professors are due to retire in the coming years. Furthermore, new professorial posts are also being created, for example as part of the Bavarian State Government’s ‘High Tech Agenda’.
Your application stands the best chance in the following areas:
- technical and business degree programmes, due to their predominance at Universities of Applied Sciences
- Social Sciences and the Arts
Improvements are also to be expected, particularly in non-traditional subject areas, as the range of subjects offered at universities of applied sciences is constantly being expanded (e.g. multimedia, nursing, business languages).

The usual route to a professorship at HaWs is via submitting an application for a vacancy. Vacancies are generally always open. You can find vacancies at Hochschule München and all the information you need on applying in the section on professorships and Lehrkräfte für besondere Aufgaben (specialised instructors).
You can also enter your personal details in the relevant database for female professors at universities of applied sciences. If a suitable vacancy is advertised, you will be notified. Before you can be included in the database, you must meet the appointment requirements under civil service law.
Before submitting an application, take a realistic look at your personal abilities and experience. Nobody usually meets a job description that’s worded in idealised terms. Instead, ask yourself: Can I present my career history in such a way that it fits the role?
The better you understand the requirements, the more successful you will be. That is why you should telephone the university before submitting your written application, preferably speaking to the chair of the appointment committee. You can also contact the women’s representatives.

In Bavaria, only one in five professorships (21 per cent) is held by a woman. This is despite the fact that 51 per cent of university graduates are women – more than half.
That has to change!
The Bavaria-wide campaign ‘Become a Female Professor’ aims to raise awareness of the role of female professors at Universities of Applied Sciences (HAWs).
