Women in Academia Programme 2030
HM has set itself the goal of achieving equality and equal opportunities across all areas of action and for all status groups. The qualitative equality objectives are set out in the HEP 2023; however, the strategic and specific objectives are deliberately organised not according to target groups, but according to HM’s five areas of action.
The aim is therefore to ensure that equality is understood and taken into account as a cross-cutting priority across the entire university.

As part of the 2023 Programme for Women Professors (PP2030), measures are being implemented that contribute to the achievement of selected targets from the HEP 2023 in the cross-cutting theme of equality:
‘Apprenticeship’ area of activity
- Establishing gender-sensitive teaching: Lecturers should be continuously made aware of gender and diversity issues, and they should promote equality through their teaching and course content.
- Increasing gender diversity in STEM degree programmes: The aim is to attract more female pupils to STEM degree programmes at the HM and to reduce the number of female students dropping out.
‘Research’ area of activity
- Empowering female researchers and raising their profile: expanding research activities carried out by women, raising the profile of female researchers, and introducing monitoring of women in research.
Area of Action: ‘Resources and Processes’
- Ensuring gender-equitable processes: Implementing gender-equitable recruitment procedures and ensuring family-friendly university structures.
- Allocate resources in a manner that promotes gender equality: increase the proportion of women in leadership roles and professorial posts, and professionalise work on gender equality.
Area of Action: ‘Organisation and Management’
- Equality, gender and diversity are firmly established in everyday university life: promoting respectful and non-discriminatory interactions, providing spaces and opportunities across the university to engage with the issues of equality, gender and diversity, and making equality and gender central components of the HM’s public relations work.
At a ceremony on 4 December 2024, the HM was awarded the title of “University with a Strong Commitment to Gender Equality” by the BMBF for its “Gender Equality Plan for Parity”:
