Climate City Dashboard 2.0 – CCD2.0

A kick-off with a sense of optimism

In May 2025, a kick-off event marked the start of the initiative. More than 100 representatives from public administration, business, civil society and research came together at the invitation of the Department for Climate and Environment of the City of Munich. Instead of traditional lectures, a World Café was organised: nine themed tables, ranging from the heating transition to sustainable logistics, and from circular construction to climate finance. This format provided a space to discuss, bounce ideas off one another and engage in direct dialogue. In an open and collaborative atmosphere, initial ideas for concrete climate protection measures were thus developed.

HM:UniverCity as a bridge-builder

At the heart of it all was the HM:UniverCity innovation network at Hochschule München. Anna-Lena Rehm and Michael Droß are structuring the project using innovative formats that bring together a variety of perspectives. “Together with the UnternehmerTUM start-up centre, we are supporting the process in a co-creative way. The approach is designed to combine the ideas, experiences and resources of different stakeholders,” says Anna-Lena Rehm of her project. The aim is to actively promote participation and co-creation in order to generate new knowledge and understanding.

From an idea to a concrete project

Based on the co-creative exchange during the kick-off event, specific project ideas were subsequently submitted. These included, for example, initiatives to improve commuter mobility through car-sharing or bike-sharing schemes, a workshop kitchen for repairing and lending out equipment, and crowdfunding for solar panels or charging points. The team found this an impressive selection: “Over the coming months, up to five project ideas will be selected from the visions submitted to be developed further,” said Michael Droß. Support for this will come from digital tools such as a digital climate dashboard, which makes complex climate data visible.

When community becomes the future

“Building bridges between science, business, politics and society” – that is the guiding principle of HM:UniverCity. The fact that this approach works is demonstrated by successfully completed urban development projects in Neuperlach and Wolfratshausen. When it comes to climate neutrality, too, the team relies on a collaborative approach: “Through dialogue and a shift in perspective among all partners, we can develop and drive forward innovative solutions – because true co-creation means more than just participation: it brings home the fact that every perspective counts and that, together, real change is possible,” says Rehm.
