Videos in teaching

The methodically considered use of videos in teaching opens up innovative possibilities for designing educational teaching and learning scenarios. Videos can support learning processes and boost students’ motivation.

Use in teaching

Teaching

You can record lectures, such as introductory lectures or laboratory introductions, and make them available to students by embedding them in Moodle courses. Videos can be integrated into face-to-face teaching and can enhance blended learning formats. They are also an important component of online teaching, for example in vhb courses or MOOCs.

Teaching and learning approaches

Videos can be used to implement innovative teaching and learning approaches such as the flipped classroom or just-in-time teaching (JiTT). In the flipped classroom, course content is made available to students in advance, for example via a video. The face-to-face session is then used to clarify any points of confusion, apply the content learned and consolidate their understanding.

Training and consultancy

In our workshops on audio and video recording, we’ll equip you with the skills you need to record your event yourself. You’re also welcome to arrange a personal consultation to discuss how to set up audio and video recording.

Further training courses on the use of video in teaching are also offered regularly by the BayZiel Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Teaching advice

The E-Learning Centre within the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education advises lecturers at Hochschule München on lesson planning and the effective integration of videos into teaching and learning scenarios, and provides information on organisational procedures and the necessary technology (recording, editing, distribution).

Possible production techniques

  • Screencasts with Camtasia; Camtasia tutorials
  • Video recordings, e.g. of laboratories, using Camtasia and the associated Fuse app
  • Video recordings made using the hardware and software from the recording kit (hire equipment)
  • Video recordings made with the Lightboard
  • Bring your own device (BYOD)

Of course, videos created by other lecturers can also be incorporated into teaching, provided that the relevant legal requirements are observed. Under a framework agreement, Hochschule München offers a selection of videos for use via platforms such as LinkedIn .

Lightboard Studio

Would you like to incorporate images, videos, PowerPoint slides or graphics into your instructional videos all at once? Do your videos focus on workflows or processes? If so, make use of the instructional video production facilities at Lightboard Studio at HM.

Equipment hire (LEIHS)

The E-Learning Center of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education lends audio and video recording equipment to lecturers and other staff members. The equipment can be reserved via the web-based booking system. Access is only possible via the university network or via VPN.

The E-Learning Center’s equipment hire service has moved!

Our move to the Q-Bau is now complete. Audio and video recording equipment can now be reserved in advance as usual via the web-based booking system and then collected from the Q-Bau.
