Formal Matters – Withdrawal from the university

Alumni
Term – De-registration
De-registration refers to the process of removing a student from the universitys student register when they leave the institution.
Deregistration may take place either at the request of a student or ex officio. Fees and contributions that have already been paid for the semester in which the deregistration takes effect cannot be refunded.
Withdrawal from the university upon application
Students may apply to withdraw from the university themselves at any time. In doing so, the student may decide whether they wish to withdraw with effect from the end of the current semester or with immediate effect. Withdrawal cannot take place retrospectively, but only from the date on which the university receives the application for withdrawal at the earliest.
Applications for de-registration are made via PRIMUSS Online Services.
On the PRIMUSS portal, you can find the application form for de-registration under Services > Applications and Messages > Select application/form > All applications and forms > De-registration.
It takes approximately one week to process your withdrawal from the university. The withdrawal notification will then be made available for download on the PRIMUSS portal.
Once you have withdrawn from your studies, you will only be able to resume your studies at a later date if, amongst other things, you submit an application for a place on a degree programme.
Withdrawal from the university following the successful completion of the final examination
Once students have passed their final examination, Hochschule München will always deregister them at the end of the semester in which the final examination was passed. Deregistration following the passing of a final examination does not, therefore, take place upon the submission of the bachelor's degree thesis or the completion of any other examination requirement.
Withdrawal from the university due to a definitive failure
You will be struck off the register of Hochschule München if you have definitively failed a preliminary, intermediate or final examination required under the current examination regulations, or if, for reasons for which you are responsible, you no longer (can) meet the requirements for sitting one of these examinations.
Deregistration is the consequence of a final failure and is notified at the same time as the relevant examination result.
Should you be facing the prospect of this form of de-registration, or if it has already taken place, please feel free to arrange a consultation with the Student Advice Centre .
Withdrawal from the university due to failure to complete re-registration by the deadline
Students will be deregistered from Hochschule München if they have not completed their re-registration by the deadline. Deregistration takes place at the end of the semester in which they are still registered as students, and therefore before the start of the semester for which the re-registration was not received by the deadline.
Consequences of deregistration
Withdrawal from the university has certain consequences. You can find out what you need to bear in mind in particular under Important information on completing your degree.
