Tips for following up after a job interview
The follow-up
Evaluate the conversation using a checklist so that you don’t forget anything and can compare several conversations. Make a note of who you spoke to, what you discussed, and any important information you received. Reflect on your behaviour and consider what you might want to do differently in your next conversation.
Use a table you’ve created yourself to assess how well the role suits you:
- How well do the job requirements match your skills profile?
- How well do your values and interests align with the company’s?
- To what extent does the role meet your expectations in terms of salary, working conditions, commute, workplace, professional development, career planning and work-life balance?
The following questions may help to supplement your CV:
- What went well / not so well?
- What am I happy with / not happy with?
- What was an unexpected situation for me?
- What can I do better at my next interview?
- Were the people you spoke to friendly and pleasant?
- Did I feel at ease during the interview and whilst at the company?
- What changes would I have to make to take on this role?
