Continuation of BAföG funding
When do I need proof of continued eligibility?
After the fourth semester of study, Section 48 of the BAföG requires proof of academic achievement in order for BAföG funding to continue.
What requirements must I meet to continue receiving BAföG funding?
The requirements that must normally be met by the end of the fourth semester of study in each degree programme are listed below for each department.

Architecture
Standard period of study: six semesters
Internship: an eight-week pre-study internship to be completed by the end of the second semester of study
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, the eight-week pre-study internship has been successfully completed and at least 90 ECTS credits have been earned.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, the eight-week pre-study internship has been successfully completed and at least 120 ECTS credits have been earned.
Civil Engineering
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, all examinations for the foundation stage (first and second semester) have been passed and the pre-study internship has been successfully completed.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth and sixth semesters of study, the examinations for the foundation stage (first and second semesters) have been fully passed, the pre-study internship has been successfully completed, and examinations worth at least 20 ECTS credits have been passed in the subjects of the main study programme.
Automotive Engineering/Aerospace Engineering/Mechanical Engineering
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if at least 68 ECTS credits have been earned by the end of the fourth semester of study.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, at least 68 ECTS credits have been earned by the end of the fifth semester of study and the practical training component of the Practical Training Semester has been fully completed.
Electrical Engineering and Information Technology/Renewable Energies – Electrial Engineering/Electrical Engineering – Electromobility
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, at least 70 ECTS credits have been earned during the first four semesters.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least 95 ECTS credits have been earned from the first four semesters, or, by the end of the sixth semester of study, at least 120 ECTS credits have been earned, and the practical training component of the Practical Training Semester has been fully completed.
Building Services Engineering/Packaging Technology and Paper Process Engineering/Print and Media Technology
Standard period of study: seven semesters
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, all examinations from the first and second semesters (60 ECTS credits) as well as 20 ECTS credits from the third or fourth semester have been successfully completed.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, all examinations from the first and second semesters (60 ECTS credits) as well as 30 ECTS credits from the third or fourth semester have been completed, or if, by the end of the sixth semester of study, all examinations from the first to the fourth semesters (120 ECTS credits) have been completed.
Technical Writing/Technical Communication
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, all examinations from the first and second semesters, as well as examinations totalling at least 40 ECTS credits from the third and fourth semesters, have been passed.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, all examinations from the first to the second semesters, as well as examinations totalling at least 50 ECTS credits from the third and fourth semesters have been passed; or, by the end of the sixth semester of study, all examinations from the first to the second semesters as well as examinations worth at least 50 ECTS credits from the third and fourth semesters have been passed and the Practical Training Semester has been completed.
Ophthalmic Optics and Optometry|Optometry/Bioengineering/Chemical Engineering/Mechatronics/Engineering Physics/Production and Automation
Standard period of study: seven semesters
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, all examinations from the first and second semesters (60 ECTS credits) as well as 16 ECTS credits from the third or fourth semester have been successfully completed.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, all examinations from the first and second semesters (60 ECTS credits) and 30 ECTS credits from the third or fourth semester have been completed, or if, by the end of the sixth semester of study, all examinations from the first to the fourth semesters totalling 120 ECTS credits have been passed.
Computer Science/Business Informatics/Information Systems and Management/Scientific Computing
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if at least 68 ECTS credits have been earned by the end of the fourth semester of study.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least 68 ECTS credits have been earned and the practical training component of the Practical Training Semester has been fully completed.
Cartography|Geomedia Technology/Applied Geodesy and Geoinformatics/Geoinformatics and Navigation
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester
Applied Geodesy and Geoinformatics: internship in the sixth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, at least the modules from the first and second semesters, as well as two examinations from the third and fourth semesters have been passed.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least the modules from the first and second semesters, as well as four examinations from the third and fourth semesters have been passed.
Engineering and Management/Automotive Engineering and Management/Logistics Engineering and Management
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: sixth semester
Logistics Engineering and Management: internship in the fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if at least 70 ECTS credits have been earned by the end of the fourth semester of study.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least 100 ECTS credits have been earned, or if, by the end of the sixth semester of study, at least 120 ECTS credits have been earned.
Business Administration
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fourth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the third semester of study, examinations totalling 60 ECTS credits have been passed, or if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, examinations totalling 75 ECTS credits from the first three semesters have been passed.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, examinations totalling 90 ECTS credits from the first three semesters have been passed, or if, by the end of the sixth semester of study, examinations totalling 120 ECTS credits from the first four semesters have been passed (including the Practical Training Semester) and a further 15 ECTS credits have been earned, making a total of 135 ECTS credits.
Social Work/Social Education
Standard period of study: seven semesters
First stage of study: first to fourth semesters
Second stage of study: fifth to seventh semester
Internship: fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the third or fourth semester of study, at least 90 ECTS credits have been earned.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least 120 ECTS credits have been earned, or if, by the end of the sixth semester of study, at least 150 ECTS credits have been earned.
Childhood education (age 0–12)
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: five-week block internship between the sixth and seventh semesters
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, at least 20 ECTS credits have been obtained from the modules of the fourth semester.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth or sixth semester of study, all modules of the fourth semester have been passed and 50 ECTS credits have been earned from the modules of the fourth, fifth and sixth semesters.
Management of Social Innovations
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the third or fourth semester of study, at least 90 ECTS credits have been earned.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least 120 ECTS credits have been earned, or if, by the end of sixth semester of study, at least 150 ECTS credits have been earned.
Online Study Program Social Work (BASA-online)
Extra-occupational part-time study
Standard period of study: eight semesters
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the third or fourth semester of study, at least 70 ECTS credits have been earned.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least 95 ECTS credits have been earned, or if, by the end of the sixth semester of study, at least 115 ECTS credits have been earned.
Nursing Studies
Standard period of study: nine semesters
First to fourth semesters: part-time
Fifth to ninth semesters: full-time
Internship: fifth and sixth semesters
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the sixth semester of study, at least 100 ECTS credits have been earned.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the seventh semester of study, at least 120 ECTS credits have been earned, or if, by the end of the eighth semester of study, at least 150 ECTS credits have been earned.
BA Design
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, at least 88 ECTS credits have been earned, including a project module and an advanced or specialised subject.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least 96 ECTS credits have been earned, or if, by the end of the sixth semester of study, an 18-week internship has been completed.
There are no degree programmes at Department 13 for which BAföG can be applied for.
Tourism Management
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fourth semester
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth semester of study, at least 70 ECTS credits have been earned.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth or sixth semester of study, at least 120 ECTS credits have been earned.
Informatics and Design/Digital Engineering/Geodata Science
Standard period of study: seven semesters
Internship: fifth semester (Informatics and Design/Digital Engineering), sixth semester (Geodata Science)
- A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fourth study semester, at least 80 ECTS credits have been earned.
- Catching up following the withdrawal of funding:
A certificate pursuant to Section 48 of the BAföG regarding eligibility under Section 9 of the BAföG will be issued if, by the end of the fifth semester of study, at least 100 ECTS credits have been earned.
Proof of academic achievement
How and where can I apply for a proof of academic achievement?
You can request Form 05 via PRIMUSS Online Services. Form 05 will be completed by the relevant Administrator from the Examination and Internship Office and then made available to you via PRIMUSS Online Services.
Apply via PRIMUSS Online Services
Is there anything else I need to do after submitting the form?
Yes. The completed form will be made available to students via PRIMUSS Online Services. They must then forward it to the ‘Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern’ themselves.
