Applications for German-taught master's degree programmes

Information on application documents, admission requirements, language proficiency, tuition fees and other charges can be found directly on the page for your chosen degree programme and the relevant department. You can find a list of master's degree programmes here. The department’s examination board decides whether you will be accepted. The teaching language for almost all degree programmes is German.

General admission requirements:

1. A completed undergraduate programme (bachelor's degree or Diplom degree) in the same or a comparable subject, comprising at least 6 semesters of theoretical study, with a converted grade of at least ‘good’ (= 2.5 or better) and 180 ECTS credits.

For some degree programmes, you can submit your application directly with a certified translation of your school report and a summary of your subjects and marks, but many require your school reports to be assessed in advance by uni-assist.

On the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs’ website,www.anabin.kmk.org, you can find out whether a degree certificate from your university is generally recognised in Germany. This is merely a general assessment and does not guarantee a place on your chosen Master’s programme!

2. Relevant practical experience (unless this forms part of the Bachelor’s degree programme) and, for advanced master's degrees, one year’s professional experience;

3. There is often a selection procedure, either an interview or a written test;

4. Proof of German language proficiency at Level B2 must be provided for all German-taught degree programmes. Some degree programmes require Level C1. Please check the website of the relevant department for further information.

For master's degree programmes taught in English, you will need English language skills at B2 level or studies completed in English.
