Proof of language proficiency

for international admission candidates

The teaching language in most bachelor's degree programmes is German, and all applicants must have a command of German at B2 level or above.

You must submit these by the time of enrolment (end of September or mid-March) at the latest. It is not possible to enrol without proof of German language proficiency.

Without proof of B2-level German language proficiency, your admission will be invalidated and you will have to submit another application.

The following German language examinations are recognised:

• German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (second level) or DSD II

• DSH 1 or 2 or 3

• TestDaF, Level 3 or higher inall four sections

Please note: You will only receive your results and certificate from TestDaF 6 weeks after the exam!!

• Placement test (= attendance at the preparatory college)

• Qualifications recognised under bilateral agreements or otherwise recognised by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) or the German Rector's Conference (HRK)

• the Goethe-Institut’s B2 or C1 level exams

• "telc German B2 or C1 for Higher Education".

• Austrian German Language Diploma (ÖSD) B2 or C1

• A degree in German Studies (not a degree in Education)

The following English language exams are recognised:

•For English-taught bachelor's degree programmes, you will need English language skills at B2 level:

• TOEFL 72–94 points, Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) test. (Test date score, not MyBest score)

Not accepted: TOEFL CBT, TOEFL ITP, TOEFL PBT, TOEFL iBT Home Edition.

• TOEIC listening: 400–485 points; reading: 385–450 points

• A minimum score of 5.5 in each section of the IELTS
IELTS General, IELTS Academic; paper-based or verified computer-based IELTS;

Not accepted: IELTS Indicator Test

• telc B2

• PTE Academic 59–75 marks

• Cambridge English Language Assessment (B2/C1: First Certificate in English (FCE))

• CET College English Test

• German higher education entrance qualification (Abitur, Fachhochschulreife) with English as a subject in the Abitur or equivalent examination

• Graduation from a school where all teaching is in English

• a university degree in a subject taught in English
