Why is the advisory meeting important?
It is important that you gain a realistic impression of the course structure, the course content and the academic requirements. The advisory meeting is designed to help you assess your own strengths and weaknesses in relation to the studies and to provide you with important information about the application process, admission and the studies themselves. The advisory meeting is compulsory for all applicants who wish to apply on the basis of a vocational qualification.

Where can I book an appointment?
The appointment takes place at the Student Advice Centre at Hochschule München.

How should I prepare for the consultation?
Please bring your vocational training or advanced education certificate to the consultation, if you already have it. You can also download and print out our checklist for qualified professionals making an application in the run-up to your consultation. This may help you to come up with specific questions for your consultation or to ‘tick off’ certain topics that you have already clarified.

Are counselling certificates from other universities also valid?
Hochschule München also accepts proof of counselling from other universities if the degree programme is in a related field. Proof of the counselling session must be submitted no later than the time of enrolment.

Where can I submit an application?

Applications must be submitted during the relevant application period via the online portal provided by Hochschule München. The application form must be completed online and the necessary documents must be uploaded to the applicant portal.

At Hochschule München, the participation of students with vocational qualifications in the admissions process is conditional upon them passing an entrance examination.

Why have a university entrance examination?
The university entrance examination is designed to assess whether, on the basis of your personality, prior knowledge, intellectual abilities and motivation, you are suitable for the studies you wish to pursue.

Who is required to sit the university entrance examination?
Applicants who wish to make an application having successfully completed at least two years’ vocational training followed by at least three years’ full-time professional experience.

Applicants who have passed the master craftsman’s (Meister) examination or hold a qualification recognised as equivalent to the master craftsman’s examination are granted direct entry upon submission of their advisory confirmation and are not required to sit the university entrance examination.

What does the university entrance examination involve?
It consists of a written (90 minutes) and an oral (approx. 20 minutes) section and covers the essential general educational and subject-specific foundations required for the intended studies.

When does the university entrance examination take place?
The university entrance examination for the winter semester usually takes place in the first week of August. For the summer semester, it takes place at the beginning of February. The written part of the examination takes place on the first day. The oral examinations then take place on the same day or the following days.

Can I prepare for the university entrance examination?
In the run-up to the university entrance examination, you have the opportunity to take part in an online info session. This takes place at the end of July for the winter semester and at the end of January for the summer semester. The link and login details will be sent to you with your invitation to the university entrance examination. There is also an online platform to help you prepare, where you will find the link to the info session. Applicants will receive access to the online platform with their invitation to the university entrance examination.

What happens after the university entrance examination?
If Hochschule München confirms that the requirements have been met, it will issue a certificate confirming eligibility to study on the applied-for degree programme, the overall mark achieved in the university entrance examination, and the date on which eligibility was granted. If you fail the university entrance examination, you may retake it once. Passing the examination does not automatically guarantee you a place on a degree programme with restricted admission. Places are allocated through a selection process based on the overall mark achieved.
